The Bay Area Rowing Club of Houston, BARC, is a nonprofit club located in the Clear Lake area, at the southeast end of Houston. We are a member of the United States Rowing Association. We row on Mud Lake, a protected offshoot of Clear Lake, which in turn opens into Galveston Bay. Our boathouse is located in Clear Lake Park near the Johnson Space Center. (directions) We also have some ties to Rice Crew which rows out of our facility.
BARC offers members the opportunity to row sweep and scull. The club owns eights, fours, quads, doubles, pairs, and singles, and also can provide storage for privately owned boats. We also offer both sweep and sculling classes, as well as frequent, inexpensive 'Try It, You'll Like it' sessions for those new to rowing. Members' rowing objectives range from racing to exercising to recreation. Sometimes referred to as 'The Bay Area Rowing and Dining Club' BARC has a very good feeling of cameraderie, and has frequent social outings.
